I got two real letters today, a very special treat for a mundane Thursday. I resisted the urge to open them until I was seated at dinner at a restaurant on the Lisburn Road.
What a nice way to spend an evening, to catch up with cherished friends and to see some familiar handwriting, last glimpsed on inter-office memos or Post-It notes. I really enjoy Facebook (who would have thought?) but there is no substitute for pen on paper and addresses with postal codes.
Writing letters is a nice pastime too, something I tend to reserve for an afternoon stop in a pub. It makes my visit there seem more purposeful, and less solitary. Plus I have loads of stationery that I need to use.
Thank you, correspondents!
Letter writing is a lost art.:)

When BT cut me and my 'missus to be' off the net for over usage several years back, we reverted to snail mail. To be honest I don't think either of us has written a proper letter since but I still remember the glee of running down the stairs to pick up the envelope and the enjoyment of composing the next reply.
I reckon that sadly you're mighty lucky to know folks these days who wouldn't just reply to a letter via text or twitter with a one line response :(

Hi,
I found you via alaninbelfast's twitter account and I've just read 8 pages of your blog. I just want to say hi and I enjoy seeing my city through your eyes and your view of our unique language and ways. I've also realised I say "no worries" a lot!
I look forward to reading more.
